Large Pop/World Percussion Ensemble - This large group of percussionists performs transcriptions of music from such contemporary artists as Pat Metheny, Frank Zappa, Steps Ahead, Shadowfax, etc. Emphasis is on contemporary popular music and the popular application of all percussive instruments. The ensemble also performs music from other cultures. (Top) Guest artist Ted Piltzecker rehearses with the Pop Ensemble. (Bottom) The World Percussion Ensemble rehearsing a Brazilian Samba.
The Chamber Percussion Ensemble - This group performs more traditional types of percussion ensemble literature, from the classics to the most recent of compositions and arrangements. Emphasis is on the smaller groups, as this ensemble is broken down into trio, quartets, quintets, etc., so that more literature is covered and performed. The Mallet Ensemble - This ensemble functions as a traditional Marimba Band, performing music ranging from ragtime to transcriptions of Bach, Mozart, and Beethoven. The group also performs more contemporary, popular music arranged by its members for its unique instrumentation. Below: The Mallet Ensemble in a rehearsal
The "Black Steel" steel drum band - This group is open to all music students, regardless of major instrument or voice. The music is a combination of traditional Caribbean music, pop/rock/latin arrangements, as well as transcriptions of "Classical" music.
