Pegasus Wind Quintet
The Pegasus Wind Quintet has been delighting audiences in the Central Florida area
for more than 10 years. It is the resident wind quintet of the University of
Central Florida, in Orlando, where the players are faculty members of the
Department of Music.
Members of the ensemble are Nora Lee Garcia, flute and piccolo; Sherwood
Hawkins, oboe and English horn; Keith Koons, clarinet; Julie Fox, bassoon; and
Gene Berger, horn. In addition to playing in the Quintet and performing solo
recitals, the players are also active as orchestral performers, with groups such
as the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra, Brevard Symphony Orchestra, Winter Park
Bach Festival Orchestra, and the Florida Orchestra.
In addition to concert audiences on the UCF campus, a variety of concert
series in the central Florida region have enjoyed hearing the Quintet. The group
has played for music students in many high schools and youth orchestras across
the state. It has performed for music conferences such as the College Music
Society and the Florida Music Educators Association. In the fall of 2002, the
group may be heard on tour in Puerto Rico.
The groups repertoire includes major works written for woodwind quintet, as
well as arrangements and lighter pieces for pure enjoyment.
