Put yourself in the mix!

The UCF ALL STAR HIGH SCHOOL JAZZTET will debut at this year's UCF-Orlando Jazz festival. It is a group of select high school jazz musicians competing for the opportunity to open up for the headliner of the second annual UCF-Orlando Jazz Festival on March 19-20, 2010. The headliners in 2009 were Lou Donaldson and Kevin Mahogany.

The focus of the UCF ALL STAR HS JAZZTET is improvisation within the small group setting. Since the mid 1940's the jazz performance has been exemplified by Charlie Parker and Dizzy Gillespie's groups, Bud Powell's small ensembles, Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers, Horace Silvers Quintet, and John Coltrane's classic quartet. High school students chosen for the UCF All Star High School Jazztet will be coached by the UCF Jazz Faculty for in-depth rehearsals prior to the event.

High school students from all over the country are eligible to audition.
