Auditioning for the UCF ALL Star Jazztet:

1. All applicants should play one of the following instruments: Piano, bass (acoustic and/or electric), drum set, guitar, vibes, trumpet, trombone, saxophone (alto or tenor).
2. Each musician will need to listen to Boneyard Medley, and The Norfolk Southern RR as a complete mix, located on this web site. Use these "full" versions of these two tunes as a reference for interpretation, feel, and improvisation, as these are the elements of your performance we will be listening for.
3. Download the version minus your instrument and practice with the track. There is a chart in pdf format for you to download as well that compliments the track.
4. Prepare your part and your original solos for either or preferably both of these tunes.
5. Record your part with the corresponding track. In example, if you are a piano player, record along with the version of each tune that is labeled ….minus piano. You may submit either, or preferably both tracks.
6. Upload your recordings with the track (as mp3's), and e mail them to us! If you would prefer to send us a hard copy version of your performance on cd, that's fine, too.
7. We will begin accepting submissions on Monday October 6. The last day that any submission will be accepted for review is a "received by" date of Friday. February 5, 2010.

Notification and events:

1. We will notify the members of the 2010 All star High School Jazztet by Friday, February 19, 2010.
2. Winners will be sent music to prepare for performance opening up for the headliner of the 2010 UCF Orlando Jazz Festival. Rehearsals are tentatively scheduled for March 19-20, 2010. Participants must be available for all rehearsals, no exceptions.
3. UCF will provide lodging for members of the group if they are from out of town. Details to follow for the winners.
4. Amps, piano, drum set, and upright bass can be provided for participants.
5. The Performance is tentatively scheduled for 8pm March 20, 2010.

Qualifications:

1. To be eligible for the UCF All Star High School Jazztet you must be a freshman, sophomore, junior, or senior in High School on the date of the performance.
2. You must complete the audition application form (attached as a pdf file) and mail it back to us by February 5, 2010 to:
